The Hall Life' Council of the SLC held an open m ee tin g thursday night in the CCE to hear students opinions on sanctions for p a r ie ta l h o u rs an d d rin k in g regulations. A p p ro x im ate ly 100 s tu d e n ts attending the m eeting heard Tom Reed, an R.A. in Lyons say tha t it would be impossible for him to continue to be an R.A. with sanctions, as they have been proposed, being imposed from above. He felt tha t sanctions were not the answ er but ra th e r better hall judicial boards. The vast m ajority of students who voiced opinions seem ed to agree that sanctions imposed by the trustees w ere not a solution and would not be accepted by the students. Many people agreed that a stronger judicial board was a step in the right direction but the overwhelm ing feeling was against any type of sanctions. M ark Sylvester, an R.A. in P lanner, said tha t you ca n ’t deal with complex issues, such as p a r ie ta ls an d d r in k in g , w ith sim plified solutions. He felt that you have to rem em ber th a t you a re dealing with people and m ust tre a t them as such. F a th e r E d g a r J .
